After much back-and-forth about where to build a new middle school for Lower Merion School District, officials announced that the district has a tentative agreement.

The district has made an offer to purchase the Islamic Foundation Site for $12 million for the third Lower Merion School District middle school. This tentative offer includes three conditions:
  1. The Lower Merion Township must not update the historic status of the mansion to a Class 1 Historic Property.
  2. The district must be able to get zoning and land development approvals from the township.
  3. The district needs another property for playing fields.
This third stipulation keeps 6.9 acres of Stoneleigh Gardens in the equation, a hotly contested issue.
If any of these three conditions are not met, the district may still pull out of the agreement.
The district hopes to open a new school in fall of 2022.
