Upper Darby’s Drexeline Shopping Center, located along State Road, is likely to receive a large $120 million renovation soon. Existing tenants like ShopSite, CrozerKeystone, and Anthony’s Restaurant would all receive a redesign by the proposed developer, MCB Real Estate.
The plans would improve access to SEPTA’s Media Trolley Line and add walking paths to connect to the Darby Creek Trail. A six-story indoor self-storage facility and a new building that would serve as office space. Perhaps most importantly, the 18-acre site would also become home to Delco’s favorite, a new “Super” Wawa.
MCB Real Estate is based out of Maryland and specializes in retail and office acquisitions. They own over 6 million square feet of commercial real estate, so this project is a familiar process to them. They estimate this updated facility will add about 600 jobs to the area plus an additional 370 jobs in construction during the development phase.
The proposal is still in the early phases on planning, and will need to go through multiple public hearing in order to achieve approvals.
Upper Darby Township has created a website to learn more about the development and its potential impact.
